Famous faces of the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be analysing and running deep dives into the 2021 Queen’s Honours list. You may have heard by now that it’s the most diverse list to date with better minority representation and gender equality than in previous years. In fact, more women than men received awards for the first time in six years. The list also focused a lot on the unsung heroes of the pandemic who gave time, money and more to help stem the effect of this horrible pandemic. We will reflect on these individuals in future segments. But for now, let’s look at the famous faces of the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List. What recognisable and household names have been honoured this year?

  • Lemn Sissay, Playwright & Poet – OBE, well known for the book, “My Name Is Why.”
  • Raheem Sterling, Footballer – MBE, for his work with racial equality in sport.
  • Roy Hodgson, Former National Football Manager – CBE, for his contributions to the sport as a player and manager.
  • Earl Howe, Conservative Deputy Leader of the House of Lords – is awarded a Knight Grand Cross.
  • Sue Barker, Former Tennis Player – CBE, for her services to sport, TV and charity.
  • Jordan Henderson, Footballer, MBE – for his charity work during COVID-19.
  • Amika George, £FreePeriods Campaign Founder – MBE, for her work to stop period poverty.
  • Anne Longfield, Former Children’s Commissioner – CBE, for her political contributions.
  • Edward Ollard, House of Lord’s clerk – is awarded the Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath.
  • Skin (Deborah Ann Dyer), Singer – OBE, for her music work.
  • David Almond, Author – OBE, writer of children’s and YA novels.
  • Arlene Phillips, Past Strictly Come Dancing Judge – has been awarded Dame for her services to the arts.
  • Alan Parsons, Songwriter and Producer – OBE, for contributions to music.
  • Dame Prue Leith, Great British Bake Off Judge – Previously an OBE and CBE, now awarded Dame for her TV and charity work.
  • Nick Ross, TV Presenter – CBE, for his criminal science charity work.
  • Julian Lloyd Webber, Conductor – OBE, (brother of Playwright, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber) for outstanding achievements in music.
  • Sir Jonathan Pryce, Actor – was awarded a knighthood for his oscar-nominated acting work.
  • Rick Wakeman, Member of Yes – CBE, for his contributions to music.
  • Robert Rinder, TV Judge – MBE, for his work in Holocaust awareness.
  • Luol Deng, Former Pro Basketball Player – OBE, for contributions to the sport.
  • Julie Nelson, NI Footballer – BEM, also for her contributions to the sport.
  • Lulu, Pop Star – CBE, for her work with charity, entertainment and music.
  • Ram John Holder, Actor – CBE, for his work in drama and music.
  • Alison Moyet, Member of Yazoo – MBE, for 40 years of service to music.
  • Kevin Sinfield, Rugby Manager – OBE, for services to rugby and charity.
  • Engelbert Humperdinck, Singer – MBE,  for his services to music.
  • Dame Andrea Leadsom, Politician – gets a knighthood for her civil service.
  • Sir Tony Lloyd, MP – is awarded a knighthood.
  • Dame Meg Hillier,  Chair of the Public Accounts Committee – is also awarded a knighthood.
  • Mary Creagh, Former Labour MP – CBE, for her political career.
  • Oliver Lewis, Politician – CBE, for his political career.
